Wendy Marie Romanchak

Painter | Mixed Media Artist

Wendy Marie Romanchak received a BA in Painting from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and an MA in Art Education from Boston University. Over the years, she has taught at The Contemporary Museum, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, and Seabury Hall, a private college preparatory school. In June 2025, after two decades as an art educator, Wendy transitioned to teaching painting part-time at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College, allowing her to dedicate more time to her studio practice. Her work has been exhibited across Hawai‘i in juried shows, including the Schaefer Portrait Challenge and Mālama Wao Akua, where she has received multiple awards.

Wendy’s paintings are rooted in a deep appreciation for the natural world and the people around her. Working fluidly across media—watercolor, gouache, acrylics, oils, pastel, pencil, and ink—she blends representational imagery with expressive, intuitive mark-making. Light, value, and texture are central to her visual language, reflecting a life of close looking, emotional depth, and thoughtful engagement with the world around her.
